Shooting from the Heart on Inauguration Day
In my humble opinion, whatever anyone's political preference was - there was no denying that January 20, 2009 was going to be quite an exciting, historical day. Young and old were going to feel it and talk about it for years to come and I didn't want to miss the opportunity to document that!
Krista came into our room right before school and felt the excitement. Right after I dropped her off,
I went over to my in-laws house and watched the Inauguration of President Obama with my
father-in-law.
We were both so quite as we watched and listened to President Obama's Inaugural Address.
Mr. Toby jumped on the couch and kissed "Grandpa's" cheek. I sat next to him and saw why Mr. Toby was led to do that.

Forever Flowers from a Friend!
My very dear friend, Diane Phillips owner of DK Designs Hawaii is one talented Woman! I'm sure you've heard me rave about her exquisite floral clay creations and her gorgeous hand made stationery. A while back Diane created one of a kind stationery for Debbie Friedrich Photography which I use for thank you notes and gift certificates. Capturing Love from Above

The beautiful colors from last night's sunset inspired me to grab my camera and capture the gorgeous colors of pinks, periwinkles and magenta. It wasn't until after I downloaded the images that I noticed all the hearts!

First came love
then came marriage
then came Baby Payton!
I had the wonderful opportunity of photographing Shana & Brian's wedding two and a half years ago in Hawaii. I kept in touch with Shana over the years and was just thrilled when she told me they were expecting! Since they live in the Bay Area and I live in San Diego I didn't get the opportunity to photograph her pregnancy portraits but I was up north right after Payton came into the world. At just 7 days old, I got to meet this precious baby girl! I always get choked up when I first meet a baby, those miracles never cease to amaze me. I was so touched and thankful to have the opportunity to photograph another milestone in Shana & Brian's life.

Bonus discoveries on New Year's Day 2009
I wanted to start the New Year off doing something with significance. I sure got my wish! I read in the North County Times that an Internationally known environmental artist, Kirk "Kirkos" Van Allyn will draw a meditation labyrinth on the sand in Encinitas. The article went on to say that it will be an interactive event with the public and they are invited to bring gifts for the labyrinth such as flowers, colored stones, colored sand and wax candles. Kirkos dedicated his labyrinth to the San Dieguito Art Guild in appreciation for their support of his art.
I had heard about labyrinths and always wanted to walk one so this was a perfect opportunity! Before I went to this event I read up on the history and meanings of labyrinths on Wikipedia. I learned that labyrinths have been around for EVER, are used all over the world and can be found in churches, hospitals, parks and ... beaches. Unlike a maze, a labyrinth only has one way in and one way out. People walk a labyrinth to pray, quite the mind and meditate. It's said to be like a journey, as you walk through all the curves and turns, you may learn something new about yourself along the way to the center. With excitement and wonder, my daughters and I drove to Stone Steps Beach in Encinitas.
By the time the girls and I arrived, the labyrinth had already been created by Kirkos and now visitors were taking part by decorating the paths within and corner spaces. People young and seasoned were walking, viewing and socializing within the labyrinth. Thinking of my dear friend Diane Phillips and her question of "I wonder if you'll find any hearts along the way?", well I sure did! I was amazed at just how many. Man made and natural made hearts everywhere! Very cool.
I didn't get the opportunity to walk this labyrinth in its entirety but I did walk away enriched with new discoveries and started the New Year off with significance!
